Privacy Policy

Your Privacy

Pet & Animal Welfare Socity (PAWS) strongly believes in protecting the integrity and privacy of personal information gathered from our members and from visitors to our websites. Because protecting your privacy is of great importance to us, we have created this privacy policy to communicate our practices regarding the collection and dissemination of personal information that can be linked to a specific individual, such as a name, address, phone number, e-mail address, or any other information provided to us by our members and by visitors to our websites.

These policies do not extend to external sites linked to our Shopping Mall or other non-PAWS.org website content. Please check with these companies and sites for their policies regarding data privacy, including the use of “cookies.”

Why does PAWS ask for my information?

In order to participate in some activities, you might be asked to provide some personal information. This could be in connection with any one or combination of the following:

  • Shipping items purchased from the PAWS Catalog
  • Making or renewing a donation online
  • Sending personalized faxes or e-mail messages when participating in action alerts
  • Registering for PAWS’s activist networks
  • Participating in contests, surveys, petitions, and giveaways
  • Requesting information packs
  • Subscribing to PAWS e-news lists

What information does PAWS collect?

We do not collect personal information from our visitors other than that which is supplied to us on a voluntary basis.

How does PAWS use the information gathered from the above sources?

We use your information to send you details about our campaigns, events, and activities; local volunteer opportunities and alerts; and membership and renewal appeals.

PAWS also uses information gathered via our websites to improve our Web-based campaigns. PAWS performs statistical analyses of aggregate user behavior and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of various areas on our websites and to use such information to improve our websites’ ability to serve you.

Does PAWS use “cookies” on its websites?

PAWS uses “cookies” on some Web pages. A cookie is a small piece of data that is stored on a visitor’s hard drive but does not contain any personal information itself. Cookies enhance a visitor’s experience by preventing the visitor from having to log in or provide information each time he or she revisits a PAWS Web page and by customizing content based on a visitor’s interests. Visitors can configure their browsers to refuse cookies or to be alerted when a site is attempting to send a cookie, although some PAWS e-commerce pages will not function properly without accepting cookies. Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to show website visitors ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to the website. Visitors who wish to opt out of Google’s use of cookies in this way can do so by visiting the Google advertising opt-out page.

PAWS also uses cookies to administer its websites, track visitor movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.

How is information used in PAWS e-mails?

If you provide PAWS with your e-mail address, you will be signed up to start receiving e-mails from PAWS. You can unsubscribe from any or all PAWS e-mail lists at any time by following the instructions included in each e-mail or by e-mailing Info@PAWS-INT.COM. The information that we gather from subscribers, including their e-mail addresses, is not shared with non-PAWS–affiliated organizations or companies. From time to time, we may send out e-mail messages that might include information about these like-minded organizations and companies, but we do not provide them with access to any personal information that you have provided. If you live outside the U.S. and provide us with your contact details, we may share these with PAWS’s international affiliates in order to keep you apprised of developments in your part of the world. If you don’t want your information to be given to PAWS’s international affiliates, please e-mail Info@PAWS-INT.COM.

In order to provide you with better and more relevant information, we compile information about e-mail response and website usage. This information helps us to understand site usage patterns as well as find what types of content and information may help improve your user experience on PAWS’s websites.

All e-mail messages sent to e-mail newsletter subscribers contain a link that allows you to unsubscribe or to modify your profile. You may subscribe or unsubscribe to any e-news or e-mail communication from PAWS at any time.

If you have any questions about PAWS e-news, please e-mail Info@PAWS-INT.COM.

How does PAWS protect my information?

PAWS is extremely protective of the information gathered through its membership and websites. Our websites have security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of the information under our control. Our Web server is located in a locked, secure environment.

When you contribute to PAWS online or make a purchase through the PAWS Catalog, we use a secure server and encryption to protect your financial and other personal information during transmission.

Does PAWS rent, sell, or trade my information?

PAWS occasionally makes the names and postal addresses of donors available to reputable advocacy and nonprofit organizations and commercial companies.

If you are a PAWS donor and you don’t want to have your information exchanged with other organizations and companies, please e-mail us at Donations@PAWS-INT.COM or call us to speak to one of our membership service representatives. Nondonors can e-mail Info@PAWS-INT.COM to manage their e-mail preferences.

The easiest way to correct or change other information regarding your membership is to visit the members’ section of our website. You can also contact our membership services at Donations@PAWS-INT.COM or phone.

If you are not a PAWS member and you have provided personal contact information on one of our websites through the methods listed above, your information will not be exchanged with organizations that are not affiliated with PAWS. If you live outside the U.S., we may share your contact details with PAWS’s international affiliates as described above. Please e-mail Info@PAWS-INT.COM if you don’t want your information to be shared in this manner.

Please be aware that your personal information may be transferred to U.S.-based third party service providers that we engage to support our activities. We take reasonable measures to ensure that any personal information collected, used, disclosed, or otherwise processed by us or by these service providers on our behalf is protected and not used or disclosed for purposes other than as directed by us, subject to applicable federal legal requirements, such as, for example, lawful requirements to disclose personal information to government authorities.
